The way that the soldiers - except for Doyle - were able to snipe and then firebomb thousands of civilians without hesitation or remorse.Īny one of these things might seem like bad writing or bad directing, but put them all together and it looks like the film was done this way intentionally so that a particular message could be made. The fact that the contingency plan for a new outbreak was to collect all the British citizens and lock them up together in the basement, even though common sense dictates that you should keep people away from each other to lessen the chance of the virus spreading. The commander's apathy towards Scarlet's discovery of a possible vaccine or cure.
That's why so much of what goes wrong can be blamed on the US soldiers and their commander either directly or indirectly. My guess is that the underlying message of the film is that whenever the United States uses its military to intervene in foreign affairs, it cocks things up. The directing is also pretty shit, it's like the intro was made by a completely different person.ĮDIT: Forgot to mention, the kids not just sneaking out and not getting caught, but they were sneaking out in the middle of the day with military patrols everywhere, makes sense, luckily the lone Jeremy Renner saw them. The kids sneaking out was stupid, the fact that one soldier saw them sneaking out then it took many hours till the military caught up to them, the mom somehow managed to survive the house that got overran by dozens and dozens of infected, the mom luckily has some form of immunity that still carries the virus(would have been acceptable in better circumstances), the military locks her up in a room with surprisingly no guards, the dad manages to get in the room because the water/power guy seems to have high level clearance like getting into rooms to talk to quarantined patients, the dad like a genius makes out with his wife, obviously he ends up getting infected then busts out and kills the apparently stationed guard outside? Then he manages to kill another guard, does he also possess the power of teleportation and invisibility? Then the military cuts all power everywhere cause fuck being able to see, right? Lets lock up the civilians in some parking esque garage with the lights off so they can't see potential infected! The opening was great, then after that it just got dumber and dumber.
But the writing in this was flat out dumb and a lot less forgivable considering it's trying to be realistic.

I've heard plenty that this wasn't as good as Days, but jesus christ I did not expect writing that shitty, normally i'd forgive shitty writing if the movie is entertaining like one of those high fantasy movies like Clash of the Titans, or even the Resident Evil movies.
